Mr. M's New World Classroom

Reflections from a teacher navigating the New World of education.

About

Welcome aboard!
I’m Mr. M, a high school English teacher navigating the ever-changing seas of education. Whether I’m charting new curriculum waters or figuring out which tech tool won’t crash mid-lesson, I always feel a little bit like a rookie—and that’s the point. In this classroom (and blog), being “new” isn’t a flaw; it’s a philosophy.

Mr. M’s New World Classroom is a space for reflection, growth, and connection—where teaching meets adventure, vulnerability, and maybe a little anime. Inspired by the spirit of One Piece, the chaos of first-year teaching, and the power of student voice, this blog is part journal, part toolbox, and part message-in-a-bottle for other educators sailing the same unpredictable waters.

What You’ll Find Here:

  • Honest stories from a teacher who still gets imposter syndrome
  • Culturally responsive and media-rich lesson ideas (yes, I will use anime, songs, and games in my classroom)
  • Tips, templates, and reflections for new or evolving teachers
  • Pop culture metaphors to make sense of the madness
  • A reminder that you’re not alone on this journey

I’ve taught English 9, Honors Enlighs 9, English 10, English Language Development (ELD), and English 9 Ethnic Studies as well as Honors English 9 Ethnic Studies. I’m constantly reworking my approach to center student identity, writing as empowerment, and real-world connections. I believe teaching is both a craft and a cause—and that it’s okay to admit you’re still learning.

So whether you’re a fellow teacher, future educator, or just passing through—thanks for stopping by. I hope you find something here that makes your teaching life a little lighter, brighter, or more inspired.
Still new. Still sailing. Still teaching.
— Mr. M
